Gotta Celebrate!

Peggy Carter as Captain America for Exiles (2018) #3 by David Marquez
This awesome pic by David Marquez for Exiles (2018) #3 is making the rounds around the net, and I had to jump on the bandwagon, so to speak.

Yup, that's right! Haley Atwell IS Captain America.

How cool.

Another Fave: David Marquez

David Marquez & Kid (on Backgrounds)
David Marquez & Kid (on Backgrounds)
It's a rough time to be a comic book fan. With the ongoing disaster that is the "Decline of the American Empire," it's hard to elevate my love of comic art to center stage when matters of life and death literally dominate the public discourse all around me. Every. day.

I mean, seriously, who the frack cares about my devotion to comic art when children are getting gunned down for the umpteen millionth time in one of our schools?

Like many, I am overwhelmed by the incessant news wash of tears and fears the world over. Even a brief break from the weight of our times feels like a betrayal of the profound issues I could be/should be discussing.

As I have no answers for the moral quagmire I feel drenched in, however, I'll turn instead to the light. Like David Marquez and his cute little kid helping him draw backgrounds for the next issue of Exiles, or the Invincible Iron Man, or The Defenders in that picture up there.

Look how happy that child is, how precious. The simple joy of a child creating art is something worth celebrating, if only to remind us of what is at stake in the culture wars that are robbing some of our children of their lives, a healthy environment, and their hope for the future.

I would wish to remake our world so that all our children can know joy, too.

David Marquez's art; it brings me joy.

I love Mikel Janin's Artwork

I have been a huge fan of Mikel Janin's artwork since his stint on Justice League Dark. I would argue that his pencils are right up there with Ryan Sook's (who did many of the initial covers for the series and is another favorite of mine).

Of course, Ulises Arreola Palomera's color work must also receive credit for the interior art on these issues. They are absolutely gorgeous!

I was inspired to focus on Janin's art in this post because I ran across CBR's exclusive preview of Janin's cover and interior art (with June Chung's colors) for Batman (2016) #41 on fyeahbatcat's tumblr (via lyrafay) this morning (see below).

I could wax on and on and on about Janin's art, but I'll save that for his creator page (which I'll eventually add to this blog... someday).

Since the latest evidence of the failure of American democracy has left me afraid and depressed, I thought I would try to steer this blog back towards the lighter side by sharing one of my favorite artists: Hrjoe Photography.

He is a self-proclaimed nerd who makes these amazing images out of action figures.

I loved playing with Star Wars figures when I was a kid, and I would absolutely have flipped out if I could have played with figures like these.

I highly recommend flipping through his collection online. FB reviews
