The violence directed towards women in Action Comics (1938) #1 impacts Lois Lane next when Butch Matson accosts her (and her date, Clark Kent) on the dance floor. He threatens Lois that she'll "dance with [him] and LIKE IT."

Lois slaps Butch in response while Clark "reluctantly adheres to his role of a weakling" (secretly cheering Lois on) and fails to behave "manly" by protecting Lois himself (presumably with some sort of comparable violence).

Then Butch decides to deal with this rejection by literally running Lois' car down and abducting her to "show that skirt she can't make a fool out of Butch Matson."
Action Comics (1938) #1 Page 10 Panel 2: Superman assures Lois that she need not fear him.
Superman: "I won't ham you" (Lois: "Thank God")

Not only does this depict every woman's horror scenario when it comes to male aggression as a response to rejection, Lois must depend upon another man's violence to "rescue" her from the first man's violence.

After all this, it is not surprising that Superman needs to reassure Lois that she "needn't be afraid of [him]."
